Rene Melgar, a passionate coffee producer from Cabañas, La Paz, Central Honduras, comes from a long lineage of farmers. As a third-generation coffee grower, Rene’s deep connection to the land and the art of coffee production runs through his family’s history. His grandfather was one of the largest coffee producers in the region, and it was from him that Rene’s father first learned the craft of coffee cultivation. In 1992, Rene’s father planted his first one-hectare farm, and over the years, he expanded his holdings, planting more coffee trees with great care and dedication.
Rene fondly recalls, “He taught me and my brother everything about coffee, and from a very young age, he instilled in us the importance of hard work and the value of what we had.” This strong foundation shaped Rene’s approach to coffee farming, one that blends tradition with a commitment to quality.
Today, Rene produces coffee from a unique hybrid varietal known as Ibsafe 90 (IH-90), a crossbreed renowned for its exceptional flavour profile. The coffee grown at an altitude of 1680 meters above sea level showcases a refined balance of flavours, offering rich notes of
Peach, Kiwi & Apricot all complemented by vibrant floral undertones. It’s a testament to the region’s ideal growing conditions and the meticulous care taken in its cultivation.
Rene’s dedication to his craft and the legacy of his family continue to influence every cup of coffee that comes from his farm, carrying forward a tradition of excellence in every bean.
